Enhanced Search Engine!

The basic search engine, at the top right of each page, has been enhanced to include many advanced search features. You will notice that there is now a drop down box next to the search field. You may now select the default options you wish to use from the list in the drop down box and use “and/or” logic in the search field. Please note that the default search option has been changed from “All” to Product name. We believe that this change makes searching for products on our site easier.

General Search Help

All searches are case in-sensitive (upper and lower case does NOT make a difference).

Only use letters and numbers when searching. Do not use alphabetic representations of Greek characters. See Examples.

There is no wildcard character for searching, use multiple words instead.

In keyword searches, separate words cause all words to be found. You can use "" around words to search for phrases. See examples

Searches will return categories of products if too many search results are found. Click on one of these categories to find all products in that category that match the search criteria.

The search in the top portion of our website is a keyword search. We refer to this search a "Basic Search".

To understand the best way to search our site it is helpful to know how our data is organized. We divide our data into 2 sections:

  1. Product Data– This is data from our printed catalogs and resides in our database. Because it is in a database we can search on specific fields like catalog number, product name, CAS number, and molecular formula. These searches are very fast and help you target specific products quickly. Our keyword searches almost all fields in the product database.

  2. Technical Literature – We have hundreds of on-line technical documents. Searching these documents behaves like searching the Internet from one of the major search engines like Yahoo!.

Most of the search boxes allow you to use "and" and "or" operators to narrow or expand your search. For example if you search for "Apoptosis and Kinase", then both of these words must be found which allows you to narrow your search. If on the other hand, you search for "Apoptosis or Kinase", then results will be returned that have either of these words in them. You can use the operators multiple times (i.e. "Apoptosis and Polyclonal and Antibod ").

Basic Search (Search box at the top of every page)

This search has all options of advanced search. Selecting this search of our product data allows you to choose advanced search options and use and/or logic in the search box. Each option in Advanced Search is described below:

Advanced Search

This search allows you to search a specific section of the data quickly. Each option in Advanced Search is briefly described below:

  • Product Name – The product name search ignores all spaces and non alphanumeric characters in the Product Name.

  • Catalog Number – This search is intended quickly return a single catalog number. Use the keyword "or" to return multiple catalog numbers. For example "100105 or 400051".

  • CAS Number – You must include the "-" (dashes) in the CAS Number. You cannot use a CAS number to search for kits containing a certain component. Not all products have CAS numbers.

  • Molecular Formula – Treat subscripts as normal text. For example H2O2 would be written H2O2. You do not need to type in the whole formula, it is a wildcard match within the entire formula.

  • Keyword(s) – This is the same as typing something in the Quick Search box and selecting the Products option.

 Examples

  • Search for a Catalog Number
Fastest way is to go to Advanced Search or the Products page and select the Catalog Number option, then type in the catalog number you want to find. For example: 100105, OP10, 70633, 01-60-0007, C-205
  • Search by Product Name
Product name searches remove all non-alphanumeric characters and spaces from a name and then try to match. You do not have to enter complete words to search. For example, search for "heptaethylene" to find
    O-(2-Azidoethyl)-O'-(N-diglycolyl-2-aminoethyl)heptaethylene

Use the "and" keyword to search for multiple words in a name. For example, "petblue1 blunt" returns 3 matches. "petblue1 and blunt" returns 7 matches because the words don’t have to be next to each other. "petblue1 and blunt" and "blunt and petblue1" return the same results.
  • Search by CAS Number
You need to put in the CAS Number with the dashes.
Some examples are: 31282-04-9 and 52665-69-7
  • Search by Molecular Formula
This can be any part of the formula.
    Some examples are: h2o2, h203, no3hcl
  • Keyword searches
This applies equally to the Quick Search box or the Advanced Search Keyword box.
For example, too locate resins for synthesis of peptide amides search for keywords ‘"peptide amide" resin’. Similarly for resins for making sulfonamides search keywords ‘sulfonamide resin’
