ER-a Liquid. In 500 mM KCl, 50 mM Tris, 2 mM DTT, 1 mM EDTA, 1 mM sodium vanadate, 10% glycerol, 0.02% NaN3, pH 7.5. AVOID FREEZE/THAW CYCLES. Recombinant, human estrogen receptor-a expressed in S. frugiperda insect cells. A hormone-inducible transcription factor that can positively or negatively regulate expression of many genes involved in tissue growth and differentiation. ER-a is essential for induction of the oxytocin receptor by estrogen. Activated ER-a is involved in the modulation of transcription triggered by AP-1. Provided in a soluble, functionally-active form. Binds to estradiol (Kd = 300 pM) and to a fluorescein-labeled estrogen response element (ERE; Kd = 10 nM). Suitable for in vitro transcription assays. Activity: Binds ≥ 1000 pmol [3H]-estradiol/ml. Specific activity: Binds ≥ 5,000 pmol [3H]-estradiol/mg protein. Purity: ≥80% by SDS-PAGE. Ref.: Teyssier, C., et al. 2001. J. Biol. Chem. 276, 36361. Young, L.T., et al. 1998. NeuroReport 9, 933.
